Dell Trump Account: Who Gets the $250 Deposit?

Your child qualifies for the $250 Dell Trump Account deposit if they were born between 2016 and 2024 and live in a ZIP code where the median family income is about $118,000 or less. At ModernWallet, we track every deposit a child can get through a Trump Account, and this one has the most confusing rules. The contribution requires no separate application form. The money deposits into the child's established Trump Account directly, with transfers expected by October 9, 2026.

The Dell gift targets 25 million children whose birth years fall right before the federal seed window. Many parents saw earlier headlines citing different eligibility numbers and wonder whether their neighborhood made the final cut.

Who Qualifies for the Dell $250

A child qualifies for the Dell Trump Account deposit by meeting three tests published by Invest America:

This private contribution comes from a $6.25 billion philanthropic pledge announced by Michael and Susan Dell through the White House in December 2025. The pledge funds private deposits of $250 each for 25 million children nationwide. Eligibility depends strictly on geography and birth year rather than individual household earnings.

Families do not need to demonstrate financial hardship or submit pay stubs to qualify. If your child fits the birth-year window and your postal area falls below the income ceiling, your child is eligible. To confirm how general account qualifications work across age groups, read our breakdown of Trump Account eligibility.

How to Check Your ZIP Code Income

You can verify your postal area's median family income by looking up your five-digit postal code on the Census Reporter table B19113. Search for your ZIP code there and read the median family income figure. Invest America's threshold uses the 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey 5-year estimates. Look directly at the figure reported for median family income.

You must check median family income rather than median household income. Household income also counts people who live alone or with roommates, so it is usually a different figure from family income for the same ZIP. The Dell gift rules rely specifically on table B19113 family data, so relying on general household statistics will give you an incorrect benchmark.

If the number on table B19113 is at or below approximately $118,000, your postal zone qualifies. There is no official ZIP checker tool. Census Reporter is the source Invest America itself points families to.

Why the Threshold Moved from $150,000 to $118,000

The income ceiling dropped to approximately $118,000 because federal automatic enrollment expanded the pool of participating children far beyond original projections. When the White House first announced the Dell pledge in December 2025, officials cited a preliminary cutoff of $150,000.

On October 1, 2026, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced the completion of automatic enrollment under press release SB-0642. According to Treasury Secretary Bessent, over 60 million more eligible children under 18 with Social Security numbers now have an account ready to be claimed. Total enrolled accounts stand at roughly 60 to 70 million across various official and news estimates.

Because the Dell pledge is capped at $6.25 billion, it covers exactly 25 million children. Automatic enrollment gave tens of millions more children an account, so the income limit had to fall for the fixed gift to cover 25 million children, starting with the lowest-income ZIP codes. Articles that cite $150,000 are quoting the original December 2025 figure.

Do You Need to Apply or Claim the Deposit?

Parents do not need to file a separate grant application to secure the $250 Dell deposit. If your child already had an account opened manually through Form 4547 or automatically through federal records, the money transfers directly into that account.

However, you must claim the child's auto-enrolled account to track the balance and invest future funds. Claiming requires downloading the official mobile app released on the Apple App Store and Google Play, confirming your identity, and accepting account terms. To walk through the activation screens step-by-step, review our guide on how to claim a Trump Account.

According to a tax-practitioner analysis of temporary Treasury regulations TD 10056, unclaimed accounts sit inside a Treasury master group trust. Family and employer deposits are blocked until a parent claims the account. The older manual route is covered in our Form 4547 guide. Musk's October 19, 2026 SpaceX share pledge has no claim process either: Musk's SpaceX share for kids can't be claimed yet, and no sign-up exists.

When the $250 Arrives and How to Track It

All Dell deposits were scheduled for completion by the end of the day on Friday, October 9, 2026. The distribution began in the lowest-income qualifying ZIP codes and expanded upward until reaching 25 million children. Invest America advised parents to check account balances early the following week to confirm receipt.

You can view deposited balances through the official mobile application or the web portal at TrumpAccounts.gov. Note that user reviews in app stores have cited occasional bugs, such as bank-linking errors and delayed display updates. If the deposit is not showing yet, check again early the week after October 9, as Invest America suggests.

If your child meets all eligibility terms and the deposit remains missing by mid-October 2026, contact the official support line at 1-866-USA-4547. You can also request an electronic callback inside the app. For additional background on delivery schedules, see our overview of when Trump Accounts get funded.

Dell $250 vs. the $1,000 Treasury Seed

The Dell deposit and the federal seed payment are completely separate programs created for different age groups. The federal government funds a one-time $1,000 seed strictly for infants born between 2025 and 2028. The Dell philanthropic gift provides $250 to children born between 2016 and 2024 who missed the newborn window.

A single child cannot collect both deposits because their birth years do not overlap. Families with multiple children may receive both across siblings, such as a toddler born in 2023 receiving the Dell gift and a baby born in 2025 receiving the Treasury seed. Learn more about infant rules in our guide to Trump Accounts for newborns.

Special Eligibility Cases and Long-Term Growth

Children living on U.S. military bases qualify for the Dell contribution under program guidelines. For foster children, program organizers have reserved funding allocations, with initial distribution rounds expected to occur next year.

Once deposited, the $250 is invested in a low-cost index fund tracking the S&P 500 or broad U.S. equities, where it compounds tax-deferred until the child reaches adulthood. Withdrawals stay locked until January 1 of the year the child turns 18. You can estimate how compound returns build until the child turns 18 using our Trump Account calculator.

Parents can complement this starting balance by contributing up to $5,000 annually from family, friends, and participating employers. Frequently asked questions

What ZIP codes qualify for the Dell Trump Account?

ZIP codes qualify if their median family income is approximately $118,000 or less based on the Census 2020 to 2024 American Community Survey 5-year estimates. You can check your area using table B19113 on Census Reporter.

Is my ZIP code eligible for a Trump Account deposit?

Your ZIP code is eligible for the Dell deposit if its Census median family income falls at or below roughly $118,000. General Trump Accounts have no ZIP code restrictions, but the Dell $250 distribution uses postal income data to reach 25 million children.

Do I have to apply for the Dell $250?

No application is required for the Dell $250 deposit. Eligible children enrolled automatically or via Form 4547 receive the deposit directly, though parents should claim the account in the official app to track and manage funds.

Can my child get both the $1,000 and the Dell $250?

No individual child qualifies for both. The $1,000 federal seed is restricted to children born between 2025 and 2028, while the Dell $250 deposit is reserved for older children born between 2016 and 2024.

Why do some articles say $150,000?

The initial December 2025 announcement estimated a $150,000 cutoff before automatic enrollment was implemented. After Treasury finished automatic enrollment on October 1, 2026, the income ceiling was adjusted down to about $118,000 to cap recipients at 25 million.
